AND JOINED IN THE FUN. !!
Due to demand we have extended the Woodland Fairy Trail for Children until Sunday 14th July (included in normal Garden Entry)

“Join us for the Legends and Lore Festival at the Lafcadio Hearn Japanese Gardens from the 1st to 7th of July.

This family-friendly event offers something for everyone, including our first ever Cosplay Competition, an insightful literary tour exploring the writers of yesteryear, and engaging children’s’ workshops designed to spark young imaginations.

Each day, visitors can gather around the serene Azumaya to hear enthralling legends from around the world, brought to life by our talented storytellers.

And make sure to look out for our Summer Fairy in the woodlands. This magical celebration of folklore and fantasy is not to be missed!”

WOODLAND FAIRY TRAIL
SUMMER FAIRY ARRIVES – Mon 1st July 4pm

On Monday 1st July, the Summer Fairy will arrive in the gardens. For this special occasion our Woodlands has been transformed into a magical fairy grove perfect for curious children, expect to see the arrival of many more fairy and elf doors. We have an extended Fairy Trail sheet and children can enter into a competition for a very special prize. No need to book but if you would like to book in advance please book a General Entry Ticket. Fairy Trail is included Free with entry ticket. (Runs from 10am to 5.30pm). Every Day until Sunday 7th July.

MYTHIC REFLECTIONS – STORYTELLING
EVERY DAY 3pm.
(from 1st to 7th July)

“The Lafcadio Hearn Japanese Gardens welcome you to Mythic Reflections, a captivating daily storytelling session included in your price of entry. At 3pm each afternoon, gather around the serene azumaya overlooking a tranquil pond and immerse yourself in a rich tapestry of folklore, legends, and myths from Ireland and around the world. Let these tales transport you to distant lands and forgotten times, enhancing your garden visit with a unique cultural twist. Don’t miss the opportunity to relax, reflect, and revel in these timeless stories that connect us all.”

Storytellers: Cathy Desmond, Paul Brent and Keith Guinan.
Different Stories Every Day.

CHILDREN’S WORKSHOPS

“Get crafty or musical for our workshop series which runs from the 2nd to the 7th of July. Unleash your creative side by designing your own garden fairy door, or play your heart out as part of our special Ukulele Jam! Spaces are limited so book your place early!”

Tuesday to Thursday: Ukulele Jam with Cathy Desmond
Friday to Sunday: Fairy Crafts with Andrea Caulfield.

Recommended for ages 5 – 10. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

UKULELE JAM
Children’s Workshop
2pm – Tuesday 2nd July

Learn the basics of playing the Ukulele with Cathy Desmond. This workshop is for 1 hour and includes the use of a Ukulele. Recommended Age Group 8-12yrs.
Parents must accompany children during lesson.

FAIRY CRAFTS – FAIRY DOOR
Children’s Workshop
2pm – Friday 5th, Saturday 6th July
and Sunday 7th July

Enjoy fun in the gardens, Andrea will take children on a walk through the woodlands and tell them all about the local fairies who live there, they will then learn to make their own Fairy Door to take home. Price includes Fairy Door and Crafting Items. Approx time: 1.5 hours. Parents must accompany children for this workshop. Booking Essential

Celtic Twilight –
Literary Walk
Saturday 6th July – 6pm.

“Join us for an insightful Literary walk through the Lafcadio Hearn Japanese Gardens on Saturday the 6th of July at 6.00pm.

Delve into the fascinating lives of Lafcadio Hearn’s illustrious contemporaries: the flamboyant Oscar Wilde, the iconic William Butler Yeats, the influential Lady Gregory, and the legendary Bram Stoker. Hear the stories of these literary giants, brought to life by our knowledgeable guides. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to connect with the past in one of Ireland’s most beautiful settings.”

Duo Frizzante –
Music Event
Friday 5th July – 4pm

Duo Frizzante, is a two-piece of Marion Ingoldsby (keyboards) and Cathy Desmond (violin and viola). They return to the Lafcadio Hearn Gardens with an hour of melodies for a musical soirée on Friday afternoon July 5th 4pm.

 The pair have devised and performed various programmes over the last 8 years. A Garden Serenade’ at the Lafcadio Hearn Gardens, Tramore was awarded “Best Concert” in the Munster Express Highlights of the Year in 2021. This year the programme takes as it’s starting point the festival theme of Legend and Lore and will feature favourite numbers inspired by the world’s best-loved stories.  Marian is a pianist and highly regarded composer and a native of Carrick on Suir. Cathy is a musician and storyteller based in Tramore. 

Summer Fairy says Goodbye
Sunday 7th July – 5pm

Final day of the Legends and Lore Festival is time to say goodbye to the Summer Fairy, join us in the gardens for the last day of the Fairy Trail and Festival End. Normal Garden Entry applies.
